Grant Opportunities

Community Wildfire Defense Fund (Round 2)

Upper Chama Soil and Water Conservation District is taking applications from landowners interested in Hazardous Fuel Reduction, Defensible Space implementation, or Riparian Restoration.

Applications can be downloaded on the UCSWCD website or picked up at their office M-F 1:00 – 5:00 pm.  There is no deadline to apply. Applications will be accepted until finding is expended.

  • Hazardous Fuel Reduction is defined as forest thinning outside the 1-acre envelope of structures or homes. Treatments may include hand thinning or mechanical removal.
  • Defensible Space is defined as a 1-acre envelope that surrounds a home or structure, and treatment will be conducted to Firewise USA standards. (For Brazos this will not include large hazard trees greater than 14″ in diameter or greater than 50′ in height.)
  • Riparian Restoration will include the treatment of non-native woody invasive species such as Russian Olive and Salt Cedar.
