Green Waste Disposal
Important Notice – Don’t jeopardize our green waste disposal.
Please be sure there’s no trash in the green waste you dispose of at Russell Sand and Gravel.
This year, Russell Sand and Gravel has generously allowed Chama Valley residents to drop off green waste that the gravel pit operator can use a portion of materials to backfill gravel pits. The green waste can include pine needle, pine cones, limbs and even stumps. The cost is very reasonable, and Brazos residents have made extensive use of the service. Since May, over 222 loads have been delivered from the Chama valley residents and that totals over 123 tons. The majority of that tonnage represents fuel wood and pine needles that has been removed from around our homes and acreage here in the Brazos Canyon.
No Trash to Russell’s Gravel!
Unfortunately, last week, a load was delivered to Russell Sand and Gravel that included a bunch of trash. When delivering a load this morning, I cleaned up as much of the trash as I could which including cardboards, old tins and oil cans, bottles, lattice fencing, boards, twine from straw bales, and a variety of plastic bottles and containers. If you transport materials in plastic bags, please remove the bags and take them home with you for reuse or disposal. They can accept only clean green waste only. Do not take trash. Fortunately, the owner/operator identified the party who dumped the trash and informed them of the issue. The back fill of the ponds is an important “end of life” process for the gravel pits and is monitored by government entities. We do not want to jeopardize this important disposal opportunity for our green waste disposal which is a convenient and cost-effective part of reducing the forest fuels in the Brazos River Valley. If you see trash in the green waste, please take a minute to pick it up and dispose of it.
Please let the Russell’s crew know how important they are to our Firewise effort. We publicly acknowledged their important contribution at the June 7th Firewise Meeting and have given them a gift certificate to the local bakery as a small “thank you” for their important contribution to making our defensible space efforts a success in the Brazos.
